Position Description

Position Summary

Reporting to the Assistant Provost for Graduate Enrollment, the Senior Graduate International Admissions Counselor (Counselor) supports the university's strategic enrollment management plan and program-level enrollment goals through the recruitment and enrollment of international students to graduate programs in the College of Science and Engineering (CSE). The Counselor will be part of a functional team of program-level recruiters and a cross-functional team that includes marketers, operations staff, and key stakeholders in our colleges and graduate programs.
Recruitment and Outreach (50%)
  • Serve as first point of contact for prospective international CSE graduate students regarding programs of study, application policies and procedures.
  • Develop a general understanding of all graduate programs/certificates and financial aid opportunities, building expertise in select programs.
  • Effectively utilize the customer relations management (CRM) software to identify and encourage qualified prospects to apply for admission.
  • Develop and manage relationships with prospects and applicants throughout enrollment funnel. Represent graduate programs at recruitment events and with employers.
  • Advocate for prospective students with academic departments and campus service centers to facilitate enrollment.
  • Serve as a Designated School Official (DSO) issuing initial I-20s and act as a resource to new students on immigration matters.
  • Work with the Assistant Provost to develop a program-level recruitment strategy for prospective international student engagement based upon the program of study and student personas. This includes lead generation activities, recruitment events, and social media. Provide associated reports regarding strategy effectiveness.
  • With the designated Graduate Enrollment Marketer, the Assistant Director of Marketing and Communication, and program collaboration, implement and monitor a full-funnel communication plan for each program, including email and calling campaigns.

Advising (20%)
  • Maintain working knowledge of application requirements for designated programs.
  • Evaluate student's eligibility for the program.
  • Consult with departmental faculty and staff from those designated programs regarding prospective and admitted students, application requirements and status, and admission decisions.
  • Utilize the CRM software strategically throughout the enrollment process and support program efforts to optimize the software.
  • Record admission decisions into the CRM and other systems as needed.
Other Duties (20%)
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with the Dean's Office and program directors to ensure alignment with recruitment goals, messages, and processes.
  • Work with the functional international recruitment and admission team to implement a continuous improvement cycle for all prospective graduate international students' journey through our recruitment and admission cycle. Provide thought leadership to suggest improvements to related websites, application processes, marketing and messaging campaigns, and help identify and solve pain points for prospective international students.
  • Work to ensure a warm handoff from the admissions team to the International Student and Scholar Center and academic programs.
Secondary Responsibilities (10%)
  • Contribute to the operational workflow of the entire admission process.
  • Provide phone and staffing support as needed.
  • Represent the department on university committees as needed.
  • Participate in CSE meetings, Graduate, Executive, and Professional Education team meetings and retreats. Build CRM query and reporting expertise to support recruitment and enrollment efforts.
  • Assist in the development of presentation materials as needed for faculty and the Dean's office.
  • Maintain consistency in presentations to organizations and groups.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree and 4 years of international student recruitment or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to perform the essential duties of the job.
  • The ideal candidate will be a resilient and innovative problem solver, have excellent organizational abilities with an acute attention to detail, and strong interpersonal and customer service skills that enable this person to develop positive relationships with key campus partners and provide personalized attention to prospective students throughout the recruitment and admission process.
Desired Qualifications
  • Master's degree.
  • Strong understanding of the higher education environment.
  • Previous work supporting Science and Engineering graduate student recruitment.
  • Prior DSO responsibilities.

Compensation at a Glance

Salary Range: $55,000 - $65,000

Seattle University has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information, and not based on a candidate's gender or any other protected status.

Hybrid Eligible

This position may be eligible for a hybrid schedule after successful completion of an introductory work period of 3-6 months. This may mean that a hybrid eligible role will begin on-campus initially and then will transition to hybrid format following onboarding and training. Flexible work plans are subject to periodic review and may be changed or terminated at any time for any reason at the university's discretion.
