The Contra Costa College Counseling Department is accepting applications for a full-time, tenure-track Faculty. This assignment begins August 2024. This full-time, tenure track academic position is in the Counseling Department, within the Division of Student Services. The major responsibility is to provide comprehensive counseling services to a diverse, multicultural student population. Counseling services include all aspects of educational/academic, transfer, career and personal counseling.. The assignment may also include working with learning communities that support African American students, Latinx students, or other groups. The student population of Contra Costa College (CCC) reflects its surrounding diverse communities. CCC is a proud Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) and Asian American and Native American Pacific Islander-Serving Institution (AANAPISI), and serves predominantly historically disadvantaged and under-represented student groups including African American, Asian/Pacific Islander, and Latinx students. Duties and Responsibilities:
In addition to contractual duties for this position which will include counseling and program coordination, all faculty are expected to participate actively in their disciplines, in their departmental activities and in the general intellectual life and governance of the college. Part of the counseling assignment may be in the evening program. Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
1. assisting students with decision-making and the exploration of their educational, career, and personal goals;
2. working with students to develop educational plans;
3. adhering to the schedule that has been developed with the Department Chairpersons, which may include individual student appointments, drop-in assignments, workshops, and weekend and/or evening assignments;
4. collaborating with instructional faculty in support of the goals of the institution;
5. participating in the college governance process, including attendance at all department and division meetings, and serve on college wide committees;
6. promoting the philosophy that integrates counseling and mentoring to support student learning;
7. participating in required training and activities such as conferences, regional meetings, outreach, orientations for students, community activities & social/cultural events, field trips, mentorship, advisory groups, etc.;
8. participating in professional development activities, both departmental and college-wide;
9. creating a positive environment that provides students with the support/motivation likely to enable them to transfer;
10. maintaining current knowledge of counseling techniques and other effective student support intervention strategies;
11. engaging in outreach targeting feeder high schools and community groups;
12. maintaining appropriate standards of professional conduct and ethics;
13. performing other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualification-Education/Experience:
Understanding of and sensitivity to the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, sexual orientation and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, staff and faculty.
EDUCATION Note: Master's in counseling, rehabilitation counseling, clinical psychology, counseling psychology, guidance counseling, educational counseling, social work, career development, marriage and family therapy or marriage, family and child counseling;
OR
California Community College Lifetime Teaching Credential authorizing work as a Counselor;
OR
the equivalent (you must upload a master degree equivalency form (in the attachment section of the job application) if you do not possess the required degree and believe you have the equivalent background. Applicants missing this equivalency form who do not otherwise meet the minimum requirements will not be considered) (NOTE: A bachelor's degree in one of the listed degrees and a license as a Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT) is an alternative qualification for this discipline.)

Demonstrated commitment to and experience serving a multi-culturally rich and diverse student population. Demonstrated cultural competency excellence serving low socio-economic, first-generation, multi-lingual, multi-racial, foster youth, LGBTQ+, disabled, veteran, immigrant, undocumented students, student athletes, urban communities of color.
Understanding of the scope of work for a general/instructional counseling faculty member which includes academic/educational, career, and personal counseling, knowledgeable of the transfer application process to UC, CSU, and other four-year institutions within and outside of California.
Demonstrated commitment to, and experience working with, male students of color (particularly African American, Asian Pacific Islander and Latine) in successfully reaching their personal and educational goals.
Ability to communicate in a language other than English that is representative of Contra Costa College student population.
Demonstrated commitment to collegiality and shared governance through department, campus, and district-wide engagement and collaboration required for future roles such as Department Chair or other campus/4CD committees. Possess excellent presentation, facilitation, and leadership skills.
Demonstrated personal philosophy or experience serving learning communities or student cohorts that provide instructional, programmatic and counseling such as: Puente, Umoja, MESA, First Year Experience, etc.
Ideal candidates will possess extraordinary interpersonal skills, leadership qualities, a passion for counseling, teaching, and the ability to effectively communicate with students to help them achieve their educational goals.
