About the Position:

This role is an on-campus, in-person position.

The Student Recruiter I will represent Southern Methodist University to prospective first year students and transfer students, parents, high school counselors and community college counselors for the purpose of recruiting and selecting new students for the university.

Essential Functions:

  • Utilize historical and national data trends to analyze and implement an effective recruitment strategy for prospective high school and transfer students to the University. Follow up with prospective students and parents through various communication channels, including participation in college fairs, high school visits, and potential international travel.

  • Using metrics, indexes and ratings, review and evaluate admission applications to determine admissibility to the University and participation in the committee-based decision process (known as, Committee) by being well-informed about each candidate, their application and the admission trends at their school.

  • Use data to develop and manage a communication strategy to build relationships with alumni, current students, parents, high school counselors, and independent counselors in assigned recruitment region. Participate in college fairs, high school visits, case studies, and panels. Create, plan, and lead events and activities to recruit applicants and yield accepted students to matriculation.

  • Evaluate visitor information and adapt presentations for the audience during information sessions, campus events, and walk-in hours.

  • Plan, execute and evaluate admission programs and events as assigned. Attend meetings/conferences. Attend all division and team meetings, as well as attend staff development activities. Support recruitment programs as appropriate. Management of projects not exclusive to region which may include but are not limited to website, social media, CRM, and vendors.
  • Support recruitment programs as appropriate and assist with other Enrollment Services areas as needed.


Qualifications

Education and Experience:

A Bachelor's degree in any field is required for this position.

Previous work experience recruiting for a nonprofit, selective, four-year residential liberal arts and sciences university/college is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Candidate must demonstrate strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate broadly across the University and develop and maintain effective relationships with a wide range of constituencies. Must also demonstrate strong written communication skills.

Candidate must possess strong problem-solving skills with the ability to identify and analyze problems, as well as devise solutions. Must also have strong organizational, planning and time management skills. Familiarity with SMU or other four-year selective residential universities is a plus. Demonstrated knowledge of MS Word, Excel and Outlook. Sufficient computer experience to demonstrate ability to learn new software is necessary.

Preference will be given to candidates who are able to give presentations in Spanish and converse with applicants and prospects whose first language is Spanish.

Position does require events outside the normal work day such as college fairs, school visits, and preview events. Travel is frequent. Travel season occurs for approximately three months in the Spring and three months in the Fall. valid driver's license and a good driving history is required for the role.
