Student Accessibility Services Counselor

College of Marin seeks a Student Accessibility Services (SAS) Counselor for Summer session and Fall semester 2024 on the Kentfield campus. Consideration may also be given to individuals interested in only one of the two terms – Summer or Fall.

Days/Times: Scheduled during hours of operation: Monday through Friday; 8:30 am to 4:30 pm
Dates: Summer Session Only – July and August (7/1 – 8/30/24)
Fall Semester Only – 8/19 to 12/13/24 (Finals Week 12/9 – 12/13)
Summer & Fall – 7/1 to 12/13/24 (Finals Week 12/9 – 12/13)

REQUIREMENTS
1.) A Master's degree in Rehabilitation Counseling; OR
2.) A Master's degree in: Counseling; Guidance Counseling; Student Personnel; Clinical or Counseling Psychology; Education Counseling; Social Work; Career Development; Marriage and Family Therapy; or Marriage, Family and Child Counseling; OR a Bachelor's degree in Marriage and Family Therapy or in Marriage, Family and Child Counseling AND a license as a Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT)

AND

A.) Fifteen (15) or more semester units in upper division or graduate level coursework related to people with disabilities; or
B.) Completion of six (6) semester units, or the equivalent, of a graduate-level counseling practicum or counseling field work courses, in a post-secondary Disabled Students Programs and Services program or in a program dealing with people with disabilities; or
C.) Two (2) years of full-time experience, or the equivalent, in one or more of the following:
1. Counseling for students with disabilities; or
2. Counseling in industry, government, public agencies, military or private social welfare organizations in which the responsibilities are for persons with disabilities, or the equivalent.

OR

3.) The equivalent; AND
4.) Demonstrated sensitivity to and an understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability and ethnic backgrounds of community college students and the campus community.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
Qualifications to serve as a DSPS Counselor in a California Community College.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Provides academic, career-oriented, and personal counseling to persons seeking services from SAS;
Provides instruction and develops curriculum to support students with academic services and career exploration;
Develops plans for students seeking accessibility support and/or reasonable accommodation;
Assists instructors and students in identifying academic adjustments that may aid in improving the learning environment;
Provides professional learning workshops for staff, faculty and community;
Advises, assists and evaluates student performance and learning outcomes;
Maintains and submits accurate student records in a timely manner as required;
Participates in program activities, including program planning, new teaching and learning methods, and resource development;
Contributes to development of program policies and procedures;
Participates in college professional or shared governance committees and in departmental activities such as student equity efforts, student learning outcomes assessment, curricular redesign and development, intervention and crisis support teams, recruitment, orientation activities, etc.;
Actively engages in community outreach with K-12 districts, community organizations and partners, and prospective students, providing information on support services and educational opportunity available through the District;
Maintains currency and depth of knowledge in assigned area of responsibility;
Maintains appropriate standards of professional conduct and ethics.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES (Desirable Attributes & Skills)

Understanding equity as the recognition of historical and systemic disparities in opportunity and outcomes and providing the resources necessary to address those disparities;
An equity-minded counseling approach focused on creating a welcoming and inclusive space that supports student engagement and success;
Reflective approach to counseling and teaching practices with an aim to be culturally responsive;
Working knowledge of Sections 504 & 508 of the Rehabilitation Act, Americans with Disabilities Act, and other disability legislation at State and Federal levels affecting the provision of disability services at a California community college;
Experience working with academic, learning, and career assessment instruments;
Knowledge of and skill in use of computer technologies for educational purposes, including computer-based learning;
Commitment to the counseling professions, its goals and ideals, and enthusiasm for the mission of the
Evidence of commitment to professional growth and service which may include, but is not limited to presenting workshops, attending conferences or training, development of curriculum and instructional materials, membership in school/college committees or production of classroom-based research, membership in professional organizations;
Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively and professionally with the campus.

CLEARANCES
Prior to employment, the successful candidate must successfully pass a fingerprint and tuberculin clearance.
