Salary Range:
$78,397 to $107,347 Entry Level Annual Salary (Academic Salary Schedule 2017-2018); Maximum Salary Potential $136,425. Note: Actual Salary placement is based on candidate's verified education and experience.

Position Summary:
This faculty position is a full-time, 100% FTE Tenured Track position (August - June) as Articulation Officer/Counselor in the Division of Counseling and Matriculation located at San Jose City College.

Position Purpose:


Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Develop, coordinate and maintain articulation with UC, CSU systems and Private/Independent colleges and universities; Initiate articulation agreements between institutions of higher education.
2. Develop, maintain and provide oversight of the college transfer credit, course-to-course, general education, and major preparation articulation with University of California Transfer Course Agreement (UC TCA), Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum (IGETC), California State University General Education Breadth (CSU GEB), Associate Degree for Transfer (ADT), and Course Identification Number (C-ID).
3. Serve as a resource to counselors providing up-to-date information on articulation agreements, new/updated courses, new/updated programs and degrees/certificates
4. Provide consultation to the faculty, instructional deans, and other college representatives on course and program articulation issues, especially as related to the review, revision and development of courses with transfer preparation and articulation potential.
5. Regularly keep the College community, including the colleges administrators informed of the status regarding articulation agreements, ADT, C-ID, transfer agreements and MOUs with four-year public and private institutions and changes to legislature (i.e. SB1440 and SB440).
6. Serve on the technical review committee and all college curriculum committee and assist with curriculum development, review and update processes; Participate in the online curriculum review (CurricUNET/CANVAS/curriculum software adopted) process.
7. Prepare and disseminate curriculum and articulation reports as required by university and other collegiate organizations and systems.
8. Monitor each stage of the articulation process and follow up with departments and/or faculty for timely responses and decisions.
9. Serve as a gatekeeper of course outlines, IGETC, CSU General Education Breadth, Baccalaureate lists, TCA lists, C-ID and ASSIST.
10. Compile and maintain articulation and transfer statistical reports.
11. Maintain a master list of courses, their descriptions, content changes, committee decisions, GE status, and required changes for each catalog year.
12. Assist in editing the College catalog and provide in-service training to staff/faculty/administrators.
13. Provide academic, transfer, vocational, career, and personal counseling services with professionalism.
14. Promote the philosophy that integrates counseling and mentoring to support student learning.
15. Develop educational plans and monitor student progress. Interpret and evaluate complex academic transcripts.
16. Demonstrate teaching methodologies in career development, self-assessment, study skills, and leadership courses.
17. Interpret with accuracy placement and career assessment results. Implement articulation practices and transfer policies.
18. Conduct orientations and workshops related to student success and development.
19. Maintain contact and conduct referrals to social, educational, health, and community agencies.
20. Advocate for students rights and address concerns/issues.
21. Use technology tools as it relates to counselor functions.
22. Assignments may include teaching counseling courses and/or counseling duties scheduled during some evenings and at off-site campuses. Other duties may include committee assignments and special projects.
23. Utilize the district's computerized course prerequisite system.
24. Adapt methodologies for students with special needs and different learning styles.
25. Teach courses in assigned discipline by communicating subject matter clearly and effectively.

Demonstrate commitment to professional development, including but not limited to activities such as: participation in professional conferences, workshops, seminars, membership in professional organizations, research projects, publishing academic work, participation in statewide committees or organizations, etc.
28. Demonstrate sensitivity in working with students and staff of diverse racial, ethnic, academic and socio economic backgrounds, sexual orientation, and disabilities by showing respect for differences and the dignity of others.
29. Participate in faculty responsibilities such as: course and curriculum development and review, student learning outcomes and assessment, program review, committees, research and special projects as needed in the discipline/department or district.
30. Attend and participate in department, division and college meetings and keep posted office hours.
31. Meet record keeping obligations on time, e.g. grades, census, reports, rosters, textbook orders, and requisitions.
32. Maintain and provide current course syllabi as required by California Education Code and Board policy.
33. Foster a professional work and learning environment.
34. Perform other duties as required by the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
This faculty position is a full-time, 100% FTE Tenured Track position (August - June) as Articulation Officer/Counselor in the Division of Counseling and Matriculation located at San Jose City College.

Under the direction and leadership of the Division Dean of Counseling & Matriculation, the primary responsibility of this position is articulation.

The actual percentage between the two areas will vary based on the needs of the college. The articulation responsibilities include initiating, developing, maintaining and disseminating specialized information. It also includes interacting with faculty and curriculum committees to review course content and develop a comprehensive articulation program. This position will also include counseling duties such as providing academic, career, vocational and personal counseling.

Assignment may include day, evening and weekend responsibilities. Some workdays may be assigned outside the eleven-month academic calendar.

This position is represented by the San Jose/Evergreen Federation of Teachers, AFT 6157.

Minimum Qualifications:
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

1. Master's degree in Counseling, Rehabilitation Counseling, Clinical Psychology, Counseling Psychology, Guidance Counseling, Educational Counseling, Social Work, Career Development, Marriage and Family Therapy, or Marriage, Family and Child Counseling

OR

*The Equivalent

(Note: A Bachelor's degree in one of the above listed degrees and a license as a Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT) is an alternative qualification for this discipline, pursuant to title 5, section 53410.1.)

2. Demonstrated sensitivity, knowledge, and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, gender, gender identity, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of the students we serve and sensitivity to and knowledge and understanding of groups historically underrepresented, and groups who may have experienced discrimination.

3. Success integrating diversity as appropriate into the major duties outlined in the job description and in the duties listed in the District's hiring policy; or demonstrated equivalent transferable skills to do so.

Desired Qualifications:
1. Have previous successful work experience as a full-time counselor in a community college setting.
2. Demonstrated knowledge/experience with articulation.
3. General knowledge of the policies, procedures and practices of curriculum development, transfer requirements, and community college articulation system.
4. Ability to interpret guidelines set forth by the Chancellors Office and state legislation to maintain and enhance EVCs participation in ASSIST, OSCAR, and STAR Act transfer degrees program (ADTs, C-ID, TMCs).
5. Working knowledge of software applications: word processing, spreadsheet, database management, CurricuUNET/CANVAS and other database used in the articulation unit such as ASSIST, OSCAR, C-ID.
6. Ability to perform accurately in a detail-oriented environment and to handle multiple work priorities, and organize projects.
7. Experience working with counselors, faculty and students in a professional, cooperative, open and responsive manner.
8. Demonstrated commitment to professional growth and development; innovation and improvement of counseling and teaching; and to assuming faculty responsibilities beyond the counseling department in a shared governance environment.
9. Demonstrated experience providing academic, career, vocational and personal counseling including crisis, referrals etc.
10. Demonstrated proficiency in various technologies to provide counseling services and information.
11. Demonstrated experience in assisting students in developing a plan to achieve an educational and/or career goal.
12. Demonstrated experience teaching college orientation, college success, career planning or other courses and workshops.
13. Bilingual abilities, desirable.
