Undergraduate Transfer Admissions Counselor

Job Summary
The Undergraduate Transfer Admission Counselor plays a key role in enhancing the transfer student enrollment experience by managing partnerships and policies that facilitate seamless transfer processes. Supports the Assistant Director in overseeing the Destination FGCU Pathway with feeder institutions, fostering strong relationships to ensure smooth transitions for prospective students. Contributes to the development of communication materials and represents the university at transfer fairs and events hosted at feeder colleges to engage and recruit transfer students.

Job Description

Typical duties may include but are not limited to:
  • Assists in coordinating daily operations for transfer admissions initiatives, ensuring smooth execution and effective implementation.
  • Supports the Assistant Director and Associate Director by participating in the strategic planning for transfer admissions, developing and implementing policies and procedures when appropriate.
  • Collaborates with other campus departments, services, and external partners to support the transfer population, enrollment programs, and partnerships.
  • Responsible for ensuring all partnerships, processes, and initiatives comply with the university, state and federal regulations.
  • Evaluates complex admissions applications.
  • Guides students through the admissions process by providing accurate information.
  • Reviews and provides input on applications with disclosed prior conduct incidents. Participates in the admissions clearance process for determining admissibility of special consideration cases.
  • Creates, maintains, and ensures electronic admissions records are complete, accurate, and up-to-date.
  • Responds to inquiries by email, telephone or in person from prospective students, families, and/or counselors.
  • Engages with transfer students through in-person meetings, phone consultations, and virtual sessions to provide guidance and support.
  • Travels for recruitment activities such as conducting information sessions, college fairs and on-campus events.
  • Understands transfer credit articulation and required prerequisite course information.
  • Monitors application progress and audits student records to ensure accuracy of completion of application materials.
  • Makes data corrections and updates the applicant information in the FGCU database of record.
  • Articulates transfer credits for admitted students.


Other Duties:
  • Collaborates with and assists other admissions teams with the processing of applications, initiatives, and recruitment activities.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.


Additional Job Description

Required Qualifications:
  • This position requires either four years of directly related full-time experience or, as an alternative, a Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization.
  • Experience operating a personal computer and proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Publisher and Outlook).
  • Ability to travel throughout the state of Florida.
  • Any appropriate combination of relevant education, experience, and/or certifications may be considered.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Two years experience in college or university admissions.
  • Experience in a complex admission office at a major public university.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of and ability to understand, interpret, apply, and explain university, state and federal regulations, policies, and procedures pertaining to admissions at FGCU.
  • Skill in organizing resources and establishing priorities.
  • Skill in using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to deal effectively in a team environment.
  • Strong organizational skills and an ability to prioritize and complete assignments within deadlines.
  • Advanced verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present effectively to small and large groups.
  • Ability to understand, interpret, apply, and explain applicable policies and procedures.
  • Ability to manage and coordinate assignments to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently and follow through on assignments.
  • Ability to provide professional customer service.
  • Ability to work successfully as both a member of a team and independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to interact in a professional manner with staff, faculty, students, and the community in a service-oriented environment.
