Position Type/Expected Hours of Work -
This is a full-time, AFT position, and days of work and hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 pm. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand. Note: This position is in the "NL" category of employment (non-fixed work week) An AFT- NL professional staff member or librarian who is required to work beyond 35 hours shall be compensated through compensatory time off. Compensatory time shall be earned for hours worked beyond the normal work week, or on an employee's regular day off, if requested and approved by their supervisor.

Salary Range -
AFT - U27 - Steps 1-5
$82,657 - $99,196
Internal candidate's salary will be determined by union negotiated calculations.

JOB SUMMARY

A Psychological Counselor in the Center for Health and Counseling Services reports to the Associate Director of Counseling Services and provides clinical services, including initial consultations, individual counseling, group counseling, crisis intervention, psycho-educational programming, and consultation to the College community. The successful candidate will have a deep understanding of the impact that inequality, prejudice and marginalization can have on students from underrepresented populations. This position has a specific focus on creating intentional outreach, prevention programming, consultation, and advocacy for Hispanic students, as well as other students with multiple, intersecting identities. As the Multicultural Specialist, this staff member will continue to play a key role in increasing access to counseling services and reducing mental health stigma amongst historically marginalized and underrepresented students.

Examples of Duties


DUTIES
  • Conducts initial clinical assessments & makes referrals to community-based services when appropriate
  • Conducts brief individual and group counseling
  • Provides crisis intervention to students
  • Keeps complete and timely records of clinical services
  • Provides educational programming to EOF students during their summer immersion program
  • Provides clinical supervision and participates in conducting didactic trainings to graduate students
  • Provides training to student groups, faculty, and professional staff regarding mental health issues and/or diversity and inclusion initiatives
  • Provides consultation to faculty and staff on mental health issues and students of concern
  • Maintains a visible presence at and liaises and collaborates with student groups that attend to and serve historically marginalized and underrepresented groups to promote mental health and increase access to services
  • Partners with campus colleagues from offices such as Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Compliance (EDIC), EOF program, Roukema Center for International Education and others in maintaining and strengthening an inclusive campus
  • Will serve on Departmental, Divisional or College-Wide committees that focus on mental health and/or diversity and inclusion initiatives
  • Will attend and participate in heritage months celebrations
  • Other duties as assigned

Hours may vary depending on the needs of the department and College and will include certain evening hours and holidays when college classes are in session. Occasional weekend work (e.g., Admitted Students Day, Open Houses, First-Year and Transfer Orientation) will be required.

Qualifications


REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION

Minimum requirements - NJ licensed Master level professional with degree in mental health, psychology, or social work (LCSW, LPC).

Doctoral degree in Clinical or Counseling Psychology strongly preferred. New Jersey licensed or license-eligible as a psychologist will be highly considered. If applicant is a psychologist, NJ licensure will be required prior to eligibility of the first multi-year contract.

EXPERIENCE
  • Minimum three years of counseling experience, preferably at least one year working with emerging adults in a college mental health setting
  • A Doctoral degree may be substituted for two years of required work experience.
  • Demonstrated crisis intervention skills
  • Experience with providing time-limited therapy
  • Demonstrated delivery of culturally-competent mental health care
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with staff
  • Experience providing programs and outreach that advance values of diversity, social justice and cultural competency
  • Ability to use an Electronic Medical Record Keeping System (Titanium)
  • Bilingual (preferred)
